Rio Tinto is a leading international mining group headquartered in the UK, combining Rio Tinto plc, a London listed company, and Rio Tinto Limited, which is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange. IOC is the largest manufacturer of iron ore pellets in Canada and its customer base covers North American, European and Asian steel producers. The Company operates a mine, concentrator and a pelletizing plant in Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as port facilities located in Sept-Îles (Quebec). It also operates a 418 kilometer railroad that links the mine to the port. Reporting to the Senior Geologist, the Core Logging Geologist will provide drilling and sampling support for the diamond drilling project.
The Core Logging Geologist will be accountable for but not limited to the following:
- Perform geological and geotechnical drill core logging and sampling to collect relevant data
- Ensure timely processing of samples
- Ensure accurate and complete collection, storage and synthesis of information
- Working closely with Project Managers, Geologist and Technicians
- Ensuring high standards for quality assurance and quality control
- Maintaining healthy, safety and environment standards
Qualifications
- B.Sc. Degree in Geology, Earth Science or Geological Engineering
- Eligible for P. Geo or P. Eng registration with PEG (Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of NL)
- Minimum of 1 year experience in a geological experience in the mining industry
- Significant experience in iron ore Geology
- Excellent written and verbal skills in English
- Experience with geological programs (databases and 3D visualisation)
- Valid drivers licence
