The Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) is a joint venture of Rio Tinto (58.7 per cent), Mitsubishi (26.2 per cent) and the Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Income Fund (15.1 per cent). Managed by the Rio Tinto Iron Ore group, IOC is Canada's largest iron ore pellet producer, maintaining an open pit mine, a concentrator and iron ore pellet making plant at Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as a 418km railway and port facilities at Sept Îles, Quebec, on the Gulf of St. Lawrence. With approximately 2000 employees, IOC has a global market selling to customers in North America, Europe and Asia.  
Reporting to the Supervisor, the Operator /Maintainer (Haul truck driver) will be highly motivated, adapt to changing situations and priorities, interact well with others and demonstrate the ability to both work independently and to contribute effectively within a team.
 
The responsibilities of the Operator/Maintainer (Haul truck driver) will include, but not limited to the following: 
  • Work safely through appropriate behaviours and adherence to IOC safety standards.
  • Keep work area safe, clean and well maintained. Take timely action to correct unsafe work conditions in the work area.
  • Responsible for the proper operation, maintenance, and control of equipment to ensure production targets are achieved safely and efficiently.
  • Communicate all unresolved safety and process deficiencies to the team leaders involved.
  • Provide feedback to team leaders regarding equipment performance.
  • Maintain a continuous improvement focus by developing and participating in implementation of appropriate solutions to eliminate the issues/problems identified in the work area.
  • Challenging the way that work is done.
  • The business demands will require the operator maintainer to be available for various shift assignments.

Located in Labrador City, the successful candidate must hold a technical diploma in a relevant field, including experience in an industrial environment. Preference will be given to candidates who have relevant operator experience in a mining/industrial environment.
